April Favorites (2014)

April went by so fast and to continue what I started last month, I want to again divulge my TV favorites of the month. I know not everyone is as interested in TV as movies around here, but hey if anything I can save you a lot of time and effort by watching and discussing them for you guys. I won’t mention Game of Thrones and Mad Men on here because those are obvious choices that will carry on every month till they are over, this is dedicated to everything else on TV.

1. Mr. Selfridge, Season 2
I absolutely love this show and I think I am the only person who watches this out there. I love Downton Abbey, so it is no shocker that I like these types of period shows. The show is about the British store Selfridges, last season was the story of how it begun and this year is more focused on the running of the store and how World War I is affecting them. I love watching the decorum of that era, the costumes and the characters are emotionally captivating. Jeremy Piven plays the lead role and he is so great, such a different role for him, but he pulls it off. I have to say my husband and I usually watch everything together, he’s a fellow movie/TV freak too, but this one, he cannot handle. He wants more sex and action LOL, so be forewarned if that is what you want, this show has neither.

2. Hannibal, Season 2
I let a lot of these episodes just back up on my DVR last month, so over the past 2 weekends, I binged watch the whole thing. The show is centered around Will Graham played by Hugh Dancy, a criminal profiler with gifts that are beyond reason and the psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter played by the gorgeous Mads Mikkelsen, who assists the FBI team in more ways than one in finding criminals. The show is exciting, creepy at times and visually stunning. Every episode features a rich color scheme that matches the blood that is shed. If you haven’t checked this out and you like crime dramas, then you may enjoy this.

3. The Real Housewives of NYC
I hope no one throws tomatoes at me for this one, but I have to admit this is one of my guilty pleasures. When I feel like not thinking about life and want to decompress, this is my fave thing to do, watch my girls get crazy and fight. NYC though is one of my faves, these ladies are insane and never hold back on how they feel. Personal fave is Carole Radziwill, she rules and Aviva Drescher is such a BITCH! I am totes team Carol!

4. Scandal, Season 2
Ok, I got totally behind on this and now that I just got Netflix streaming, I have been able to catch up. I probably spent half of April binging on this show, hello there is 22 episodes per season, no time to have a real life! But regardless, this show is entertaining and watching Olivia Pope and the President get steamy together is so awesome. Bonus the soundtrack is always great and Olivia’s outfits are to die for! Unfortunately, I have to wait for like ever for Season 3 to come on.

5. Vikings, Season 2
The History Channel has jumped on the bandwagon of providing original programming and this is one of their new hits. I have a thing for historical type shows, so this is perfect if you enjoy that type of stuff too. The show is centered around the Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, played by the hottie Travis Fimmel and his adventures in becoming the baddest Viking that ever lived. The Vikings live their lives according to the Gods and it is interesting to see how their folklore is told. He has a crazy family, but who doesn’t, think a shield wielding ex-wife and a brother that is a bit unreliable at times. It has a lot of action and at times though can be corny and filled with one-liners, but still it is a fun watch. This may appeal to you guys out there.

  1. Hannibal! Yaaaasssss. This season’s been great! I can’t believe the finale is coming up!! That’s the only one of these that I’ve seen…but I’ve been curious about Vikings. Maybe I’ll check it out one day!

  2. Oh man, I have to get into Hannibal, everyone says it is amazing. If you like Real Housewives of NYC, you should watch my city’s equivalent – Real Housewives of Melbourne. It is so ridiculously bitchy and hilarious. Love it!

    1. Thank you ! Yes I think you would like Hannibal it’s really good, worth catching up on. OMG Melbourne has one I had no idea! I have to find it, I am totally going to look for it. I love watching crazy beetches!

  3. Haha I just did mine couple of days back! Good list, Melissa. I tried Scandal but just can’t bother to continue. Vikings sound interesting on the other hand.

    1. I will have to check it out I have been behind on blogs for the past week so I have some catching up to do, I will be headed to your site today. I think you would like Vikings given it’s not the best show out there, but it’s a fun watch.

  4. Ahah I felt like I dream & think in British accent too after binge-ing on Toby Stephens and his ever so delightful accent!! Interesting to see Jeremy Piven in a British period drama, does he have a British accent there too then?

    1. Toby Stephens is super cute! I didn’t know he was Maggie Smith’s son wow!! Too bad he’s not on Downton that would be awesome. No he plays an American, so that helps in his performance. Do you like Downton Abbey?

      1. Ahah well Stephens’ been constantly asked if he’d ever guest star in Downton w/ his mum but he’s firmly said no. He doesn’t even watch the show, he’s more into Breaking Bad or other American shows. I’ve only managed to watch several eps of Downton and my favorite character is Dowager Countess of Grantham played by Maggie Smith. It’s rare that I’m a fan of the mother first, then the son ahah. But now I’m so obsessed w/ him!! 😀

      2. Well I am a newbie to him, but I do love my English actors, so you have definitely peaked my interest. After I saw that I instantly checked IMBD. Do you watch his Black Sails show? I haven’t seen it but it looks interesting. He would be awesome on Downton, I am slightly obsessed with that show. 🙂

      3. I’ve only seen the pilot of Black Sails and I LOVE him as Capt. Flint!! I’ve seen a lot of clips on youtube too. He looks sooo different from other roles he’s played, mostly battered and covered in blood but he’s still soooo sexy, can’t cover that up no matter how disheveled they made him, ahah. I love charismatic actors (on top of just the looks) and Toby has that in spades.

I’d love it if he joins Downton but at the same time he’s done period dramas before so I’d rather see him do other things, the guy is so versatile. Oh you must watch Jane Eyre 2006 version from BBC where he plays Rochester!! Did you see my tribute post to him, it’s filled with all kinds of clips of his work, hope you’ll check it out 😉

      4. I don’t have Starz anymore, otherwise I would watch it, as you can tell I’ll give any show a chance. Plus I like pirates and him as a pirate oh lord, I am fanning myself now. HAHA

No, but I heard of it, I will have to find it. I love period pieces and anything Jane Austen-y as well. Perhaps I can find it on Netflix or Hulu. I will def check that out on your page. Do you like Benedict Cumberbatch?

      5. Please fan girl it up I love it! Ahhh man in an instant you have transformed into a fan, he is hot! I love those types of British actors myself as well.

I see he has probably done it all at this point with her period pieces. I just jumped on the BC bandwagon myself I must admit since I just started Sherlock and I am really liking him too. But you are right he seems to be everywhere now and everyone loves him. Ok fun I am going to jump on your page.

  5. Hmm. Some of these sound interesting. Man I don’t watch any TV… Lol. I’ll probably try Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad when I eventually do watch something. : )

    1. YAY me too! I am so loving that show. The show is done so differently from everything else we have seen from the Hannibal story and I love the color palettes that are shown. Glad you like it too!
